Meridian, MS (November 15, 2021) – Around 3:07 p.m. on the afternoon of Sunday, November 14, a child was killed in a fatal truck accident in Meridian.
According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the accident happened in the westbound lanes of I-20. Police confirmed that 42-year-old Meiko Thompson was driving a Lexus in the area when her vehicle suddenly collided with a westbound Kenworth being driven by 24-year-old Timothy Mobley. The vehicles involved in the accident were badly damaged as a result.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. Thompson was severely injured and was airlifted to the hospital for treatment. An 8-year-old male in the Lexus was pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries. Nobody else was hurt in the crash.
Due to the severity of the accident, the roadway was blocked in the area of the accident for a period of time.
No further details have been released. The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
