Gulfport, MS (December 13, 2021) – Around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday night, December 12, a woman was killed in a fatal pedestrian crash in Gulfport.
According to Harrison County officials, the accident happened on US-49 at the Irby Road intersection just south of O’Neal Road. A 51-year-old woman identified as Lynnell Young-Landry was attempting to cross the intersection when she was suddenly struck by an SUV that was traveling northbound. The driver remained at the scene of the crash.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. Young-Landry was severely injured and pronounced dead at the scene. Nobody else was hurt in the collision.
The roadway was blocked in the area of the intersection. Police quickly worked to clear the scene.
No further details have been released. The investigation into the circumstances of the collision remains ongoing.
