Ocean Springs, MS (December 16, 2021) – Around 1:10 p.m. on the afternoon of Wednesday, December 15, a fatal pedestrian accident occurred in Ocean Springs that involved a train.
According to officials, the accident happened on the railroad tracks around the area of Cherokee Glen. Due to reasons that are not fully known, a man in his 20s was walking alongside the track and getting ready to cross in the afternoon hours. Suddenly, a train started to approach and was unable to stop in time. The train struck the pedestrian but remained at the scene.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were immediately called to the scene to help those in need. The man, who has not yet been formally identified, was pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries. Nobody on the train sustained injuries in the accident.
Due to the severity of the accident, the area was blocked for an extended period of time. Police quickly worked to clear the scene.
The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.
