Laurel, MS (December 17, 2021) – Around 8:00 a.m. on Thursday morning, December 16, a woman was killed in a fatal car accident in Laurel.
Troopers with the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to the fatal accident on Highway 49 in Stone County.
According to initial reports, police say a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by a 64-year-old woman was traveling southbound on Highway 49 when the vehicle went off the roadway for unknown reasons and overturned. The woman sustained fatal injuries from the crash, and despite life-saving measures performed by EMS, she was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The incident remains under active investigation by the MHP. Troopers did not say if any other vehicles were involved or if other victims suffered injuries.
