Vicksburg, MS (December 21, 2021) – Around 7:30 p.m. on the evening of Saturday, December 18, a man was killed in a fatal pedestrian accident in Vicksburg.
According to local officials, the accident happened on US-61 around the exit for Interstate 20. A pedestrian identified as 50-year-old James Cockrell was attempting to cross the road in the area when he was suddenly struck by a passenger vehicle traveling in the area. The driver of the vehicle allegedly remained at the scene.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. Cockrell was severely injured as a result of the accident. He was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
Due to the severity of the accident, a large portion of the roadway was blocked in the area for an extended period of time.
No further details have been released but the investigation remains ongoing.
