McComb, MS (January 14, 2022) – Police confirmed that a woman was killed in a fatal car accident on a major highway in McComb on Thursday, January 13.
According to local officials, the accident happened around 5 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-55. A 2020 Chevy Camaro was being operated by 26-year-old Maria Powell as 25-year-old Demetrius Bivins was traveling along in a Honda Accord. The two vehicles collided while traveling in the same direction due to unknown reasons. This caused extensive damages to both involved vehicles.
Numerous responders, including paramedics and fire crews, were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. Powell was severely injured and was pronounced dead at the scene. Nobody else was hurt in the collision.
Due to the severity of the collision, a large portion of the roadway was blocked in the area for a period of time.
Mississippi Highway Patrol officials continue their investigation into the circumstances of the collision.
