Laurel, MS (February 3, 2022) – One person was killed and several were injured in a major car accident that took place in Laurel on Wednesday afternoon, February 2.
According to Mississippi Highway Patrol officials, the collision happened at the intersection of US-84 and Jeff Byrd Road around 3:30 p.m. A white Infinity sedan and a blue pickup truck were traveling near the intersection when they entered the westbound lanes at the same time, forcefully colliding with each other. The Infinity had extensive front-end damage and the pickup truck sustained side-impact damage to its passenger side.
Several responders, including paramedics and fire crews, were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. There were nine people inside the Infinity, including eight children. Two adult passengers were in the pickup truck, one of which was severely injured. The injured parties were rushed to local hospitals for treatment of various injuries. The severely injured adult, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Due to the severity of the collision, the roadway was blocked at the intersection for a period of time until police cleared the scene.
No further details have been released. The investigation into the accident continues.
