Laurel, MS (February 4, 2022) – One person was injured in a Laurel house fire that broke out on Friday morning, February 4.
According to Laurel firefighters, the incident happened in a home on East Ninth Street. They received a call just after midnight that a home quickly became fully involved. When three engines arrived at the site of the home, they found the one-story wood home engulfed in flames and smoke. Fire crews fought the fire from three different areas due to the severity of the fire, but the home was a total loss after two hours.
Paramedics and numerous other local responders were immediately dispatched to the scene. Four adults were inside the home at the time. There were also four children aged 9, 4, 3, and 1 year old. Each person was able to escape but one of the adults was burned and was taken to a Jackson hospital for treatment. Their current condition is not yet known.
Due to the severity of the incident, the area was blocked off for an extended period of time.
No further details have been released. The investigation into the circumstances of the fire continues at this time.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family in hopes of a full recovery.
