Petal, MS (March 2, 2022) – A child was killed in a fatal car accident that took place on a major roadway in Petal on Monday evening, February 28.
Mississippi Highway Patrol officials confirmed that the accident happened at 6:20 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of MS-42. A 42-year-old Petal resident was traveling west in a Ford F-150 pickup truck when their vehicle suddenly collided with an eastbound Pontiac G6 driven by a 45-year-old Hattiesburg resident. The vehicles involved in the accident were extensively damaged as a result.
Several responders, including paramedics and fire crews, were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The 1-year-old female daughter of the G6 driver was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. It is not known if anybody else was injured as a result of the accident.
The roadway was blocked in several lanes of traffic as police worked to clear the scene. This led to delays in the area for a period of time.
The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.
