Waynesboro, MS (March 8, 2022) – On Monday night, March 7, a child was killed in a fatal truck accident on a roadway in Waynesboro.
According to Mississippi Highway Patrol officials, the accident happened on US-84. Police confirmed that a driver was headed north in a Chevrolet Silverado when it collided with a service truck traveling west due to reasons that are not yet known. The vehicles involved in the accident were extensively damaged.
Several responders, including paramedics and Jones County Fire Council, were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. A 4-year-old girl who was a passenger in the Silverado was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Silverado, as well as a 2-year-old passenger, were treated for injuries at a local hospital. The driver of the service truck, identified as a 24-year-old, was treated at the scene with minor injuries as well.
Due to the severity of the crash, a large portion of the roadway was blocked in the area for some time. Police quickly worked to clear the scene.
No further details have been released but the investigation continues.
