Lena, MS (March 15, 2022) – One person lost their life in a fatal car crash that took place on a Lena highway on Tuesday morning, March 15.
According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the accident happened on MS-25 just south of Ludlow. Two vehicles were traveling in the area when they allegedly collided with each other due to reasons that are not yet known. The vehicles involved in the accident were extensively damaged as a result of the accident.
Several responders, including local paramedics and fire crews, were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. One person involved in the crash, identified as 66-year-old Jose Melendez, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries. It is not known if anyone else received injuries in the accident.
The roadway was blocked in several lanes of traffic following the collision so that police could clear the scene. Police urged those in the area to use alternate routes, which led to delays for some time.
No further details have been released. The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
