Vicksburg, MS (March 17, 2022) – One person was killed and others were injured in a head-on collision that took place in Vicksburg on Thursday afternoon, March 17.
According to Vicksburg Police, the accident happened on MS-27. Mississippi Highway Patrol officials confirmed that the accident happened when 30-year-old John-Taylor Burton’s vehicle was traveling south when it collided head-on into a Toyota Tacoma being driven by 28-year-old Justin Gilliland. Police are not sure why one of the vehicles crossed into the other lane of traffic, leading to the damaging collision.
Several responders, including paramedics and fire crews, were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. A passenger inside the Honda, who has since been identified as 30-year-old Kiley Goulette, was pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries. Both Burton and Gilliland were taken to local hospitals for treatment of serious injuries. Their current conditions are not yet known.
Due to the severity of the collision, the roadway was blocked in all lanes for an extended period of time. Police quickly worked to clear the scene.
No further details have been released. The investigation into the circumstances of the accident remains ongoing.
