Jackson, MS (March 21, 2022) – A woman was killed in a fatal rollover collision that happened on a major Jackson highway on Monday morning, March 21.
According to Mississippi Highway Patrol officials, the accident happened around 9:15 a.m. on I-55 in Hinds County. Police confirmed that 44-year-old Jerry Hammond of Magee was traveling in his 2007 Saturn Ion when he suddenly lost control of the vehicle due to reasons that are not yet known. This caused the vehicle to drift off the side of the road, crashing and overturning forcefully.
Several responders, including local Jackson paramedics and fire crews, were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. Hammond was rushed to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. A passenger in the vehicle, identified as 42-year-old Gigi Love, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to her injuries.
Due to the severity of the accident, a large portion of the roadway was blocked in the area for a period of time.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues. Police will update with more information as it is available.
