Laurel, MS (March 27, 2022) – Around 8:35 p.m. on the night of Saturday, March 26, two women were killed in a fatal car accident in Laurel.
According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the accident happened in the southbound lanes of I-59. Police confirmed that 27-year-old Derrick Pruitt was traveling south on I-59 when his Cadillac collided with a Ford F-150 being operated by 48-year-old Jason Bloodsworth. The vehicles both sustained severe damages as a result.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to help. Two passengers in the Ford, identified as 43-year-old Janice Monk and 49-year-old Vickie Dial, were tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries. Four other victims sustained injuries. The most severe injuries were experienced by a passenger in the pickup truck, identified as 48-year-old Valorie Bloodsworth.
The roadway was blocked in several lanes for an extended period of time as police worked to clear the scene.
No further details have been released. The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
