Columbus, MS (April 6, 2022) – Around 6:30 p.m. on the evening of Tuesday, April 5, a man was killed in a fatal motorcycle crash in Columbus.
According to Mississippi Highway Patrol officials, the accident happened in the westbound lanes of MS-50. Police confirmed that 24-year-old Jimmy Handley was traveling in the area on his motorcycle when it collided with the back of a vehicle due to reasons that are not yet known. The motorcycle was extensively damaged as a result of the accident.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. Handley was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries. Nobody else was hurt in the accident.
Due to the severity of the accident, most lanes of traffic were blocked in the area for some time. Police quickly worked to clear the scene.
No further details have been released but the investigation remains ongoing.
