Yazoo City, MS (April 9, 2022) – One person was killed in a fatal truck accident that took place on a highway in Yazoo City on Saturday morning, April 9.
According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the accident happened in the early morning hours on MS-3. Police confirmed that 44-year-old Van Parker was traveling south in an International tractor-trailer when the vehicle collided head-on with a GMC Sierra driven by 46-year-old Tommie Cagle III, who was traveling north. The vehicles involved in the accident sustained severe damages as a result of the accident.
Several local responders, including paramedics and fire crews, were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. Cagle was traumatically injured and pronounced dead at the scene. Parker received injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The roadway was blocked in the area for an extended period of time. Police quickly worked to clear the scene.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues. Police will update with more information as it is available.
