Brookhaven, MS (April 19, 2022) – A man was killed in a fatal car accident that took place on a highway in Brookhaven on Monday morning, April 18.
According to Brookhaven Police, the accident happened around 8:40 a.m. on I-55. Police confirmed that 73-year-old Daniel Robinson was traveling north on the highway in his Chevrolet pickup truck when his vehicle was struck by a BMW passenger vehicle that was also traveling north. This caused Robinson’s vehicle to veer off the side of the road, where it struck a tree near mile marker 48. The vehicle sustained severe damages as a result.
Several local responders, including paramedics and fire crews, were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. Robinson was severely injured and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the BMW, identified as Edward Johnson, was not hurt in the accident.
The roadway was blocked in the area of the accident for an extended period of time as police worked to clear the scene.
Mississippi Highway Patrol officials continue their investigation into the circumstances of the collision.
