Port Gibson, MS (April 21, 2022) – Around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, a three-vehicle crash with injuries took place in Port Gibson that involved a black bear.
According to Mississippi Highway Patrol officials, the accident took place on US-61 around the area of Willow Road. A GMC Sierra, a Toyota Camry, and a Ford Focus were traveling south on the highway in the area when all three vehicles struck a black bear that was crossing the highway. The vehicles involved in the crash sustained extensive damage as a result of the crash.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The driver and passenger in the Ford Focus, who have not yet been identified, were injured in the accident. They were taken to a local hospital for treatment but are expected to be okay.
The black bear died from its injuries and was recovered by MDWFP officers.
No further details have been released. The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues at this time. Police will update with more information as it is available.
