Collins, MS (April 28, 2022) – Around 3 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, a fatal car accident took the life of a child in Collins.
According to Covington County officials, the accident happened on Magee Road and involved two vehicles. Police confirmed that a Kia Optima was traveling south on Magee Road while a Nissan Altima was headed north. The Altima crossed into the lane of the other vehicle, striking it and leading to extensive damages.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. A child in the Optima, identified as a 4-year-old boy, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene of the collision. The driver of the Kia, as well as two people in the Nissan, were hospitalized with unknown injuries.
Due to the severity of the accident, the roadway was blocked in the area for an extended period of time. Police quickly worked to clear the scene.
The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.
