Oxford, MS (May 3, 2022) – A victim sustained injuries in a DUI pedestrian accident that took place near an Oxford intersection on Sunday morning, May 1.
According to Oxford Police Department officials, the accident happened around 1:46 a.m. on South Lamar Boulevard close to the area of Belk Boulevard. A pedestrian was walking on the grass off the side of the road when they were suddenly struck by a passenger vehicle. The vehicle allegedly left the roadway at the time of the crash.
Oxford Fire and paramedics were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The pedestrian, who has not yet been identified, was severely injured in the accident. They were rushed to Baptist Memorial Hospital in North Mississippi and then flown to a second hospital by medical helicopter. The victim has since been listed in stable condition.
The driver, identified as 24-year-old Samuel Jared Brown, remained at the scene to speak with police. They found that he was under the influence at the time of the accident. He has since been arrested on aggravated DUI and open container charges.
A portion of the road was blocked in the area of the accident for some time.
No further details have been released. The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
