Vicksburg, MS (May 19, 2022) – Injuries stemmed from a severe 18-wheeler collision that took place on a major Vicksburg highway on Monday, May 16.
According to Vicksburg Police, the accident occurred in the afternoon hours in the eastbound lanes of I-20 around the area of mile marker 15. It is believed that an 18-wheeler was traveling in the area when it collided with a passenger vehicle due to reasons that are not yet known. The involved vehicles were badly damaged and had to be towed from the scene.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other Vicksburg officials were called to the scene to help those in need. One person sustained a serious leg injury in the collision. The party was rushed to the hospital by medical helicopter. It is not believed that any other parties were hurt in the collision.
Due to the severity of the accident, the roadway was blocked for some time. Drivers were urged to avoid the area until the scene was cleared.
No further details have been released. The investigation into the accident continues.
