Madison, MS (January 23, 2023) – A traffic accident reported in the Madison area on Saturday morning left one person injured. At around 3:40 a.m. on January 21, the Madison Police Department responded to a crash that occurred on Interstate 55.
According to reports, the Madison Police Department was attempting to stop a 2010 Acura that was traveling at a high rate of speed while heading northbound on Interstate 55 during the early morning hours.
As the police attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver refused to stop and continued north on the road.
As the driver fled the scene, he became involved in the collision.
One person involved in the accident, identified as Willie James III, suffered injuries in the crash. He was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he underwent emergency medical care.
The driver of the fleeing vehicle, 20-year-old Jacemeron Hampton, was subsequently arrested.
At this time, the incident remains under investigation.
