Mississippi Truck Accidents
Every day, over 7,500 people suffer injuries in car crashes throughout the United States. These accidents sadly take the lives of more than 100 people per day. An alarming fact related to these collisions is that they are mostly caused by driver negligence.
Truck accidents make up about 9% of all traffic accidents reported in the United States, according to information provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Only about 4% of registered drivers have trucks. However, they are involved in around 5% of all accidents involving injuries.
Accidents involving semi-trucks can be much more severe than accidents involving just passenger vehicles. Semi-trucks are easily 20 to 30 times heavier than the average passenger vehicle, which poses a huge threat when they become involved in accidents.
Unfortunately, the number of traffic collisions caused by negligent drivers has continued to rise in recent years. On average, more than 400,000 car crashes happen per year caused by the actions of distracted drivers. Sadly, around 3,000 people lose their lives in these crashes per year. Additionally, around 11,000 deaths per year in the United States are attributed to traffic collisions caused by speeding.
Some other dangerous forms of negligent driving include fatigue and intoxication. Drunk driving is responsible for about one-third of fatal auto collisions in the United States. Overall, negligent driving has become a serious problem in the United States, injuring and taking the lives of thousands of people per year. Negligent driving is totally illegal and punishable by jail time and steep fines, especially if people get hurt because of driver negligence.
