Hattiesburg, MS (July 17, 2023) – A small herd of cattle caused a fatal traffic crash and delays in Hattiesburg. On the morning of July 17, at around 9:30 a.m., the collision occurred on Interstate 59.
The incident happened near the US-11 exit between a semi-tractor trailer and a passenger vehicle. Shortly after, the Mississippi Department of Transportation reported that livestock were found on both roadways, resulting in delays in the northbound lanes of US-11 and totally shutting down the southbound lanes of I-59.
One person lost their life in the collision; however, no other injuries were reported. Southbound traffic on Interstate 59 and northbound traffic on US 11 were both blocked while police worked to remove the cows from the road.
