Sharkey County, MS (July 21, 2023) – Three people were killed in a fatal traffic collision that happened in Sharkey County. Police with the Mississippi Highway Patrol stated the collision took place just before 10:45 p.m. on Thursday, July 20.
Emergency responders went to the scene on Highway 61 shortly after the collision took place. It happened between a 2020 Ford Escape driven by Bertha Blackledge, 44, of Vicksburg, and a 2010 Pontiac G6 operated by 49-year-old Kenan Baker, of Greenville. Blackledge was headed north on the highway when she was involved in the crash with Baker.
Both Baker and Blackledge as well as one other person, identified as Shankia Williams, 39, of Glen Allan, lost their lives at the crash site. Police in Sharkey County are still working to determine how the collision took place.
