Ridgeland, MS (October 21, 2023) – Police in Ridgeland were called to the scene of a fatal traffic accident on the morning of October 21. Emergency responders were seen rendering aid at the crash site a short time after the wreck occurred.
Sources say the incident took place on Highway 51 near Interstate 55. One driver identified as John Vanderford, age 47, lost his life in the crash. Four others sustained injuries, according to information provided by police.
One of the injured victims was flown to the University of Mississippi Medical Center while the other three were taken to UMMC by ambulance. Part of the Natchez Trace Parkway was closed for some time after the fatal collision occurred.
Police in Ridgeland continue to investigate the details of the crash.
