Mississippi Car Accidents
Car wrecks happen in Mississippi all the time. Approximately 6 million vehicle collisions are reported per year in the United States. In Mississippi, more than 100,000 vehicle accidents happen every year. These wrecks can happen for many different reasons. Currently, the leading cause of car crashes in the United States is distracted driving. With the rise in popularity of cell phones and other handheld electronic devices, distracted driving is becoming a serious problem and causing injuries and fatalities.
Taking your eyes off of the road is a dangerous thing to do. The hazards related to this behavior are immense and devastating. While driving about 55 miles per hour and checking a text message at the same time, you’re driving the length of a football field without looking at the road. Anyone who you pass on the roadway during this time is put at serious risk for injuries or even death.
Reckless, negligent, and careless drivers need to be held responsible for their actions. The risk of hurting another person should be a large enough deterrent from driving negligently, however, individuals choose to drive carelessly and recklessly all the time. Over 400,000 people were injured by distracted drivers in 2019 in the United States, and more than 3,000 people were killed.
