Canton, MS (May 15, 2022) – On Sunday morning, May 15, a woman was killed in a fatal collision that took place at an intersection in Canton.
According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 1 a.m. at the intersection of MS-16 and MS-17. Police confirmed that 51-year-old Little Smith was traveling east in a Chevrolet Silverado when they lost control of their vehicle, causing it to collide with a utility pole off the side of the road. The vehicle sustained severe damage as a result of the accident.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. A female passenger inside the vehicle, identified as 32-year-old Nikethia Scott, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to severe injuries. An 8-year-old passenger was seriously injured and taken to a local hospital for treatment.
A large portion of the road was blocked in the area for an extended period of time. Police worked to quickly clear the scene.
Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances of the collision.
