Carthage, MS (May 8, 2022) – Injuries stemmed from a two-vehicle collision that took place on a major roadway in Carthage on Sunday afternoon, May 8.
Leake County deputies confirmed that the accident took place on the Pearl River Bridge around 2 p.m. Two vehicles were allegedly traveling in the area when they collided with each other on the bridge due to unknown reasons. Due to the force of the crash, both vehicles were severely damaged as a result.
Several local responders, including fire crews and paramedics, were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. One person was trapped inside their vehicle and had to be rescued by fire crews. The victim was rushed to the hospital for treatment of their injuries. It is not known if anybody else was hurt as a result of the collision.
The bridge was entirely blocked in the area of the accident for some time as police worked to clear the scene. This led to delays for some time.
Police continue their investigation into the circumstances of the collision at this time.
