Columbus, MS (September 23, 2021) – At 1 p.m. on Monday afternoon, September 20, a man was killed in a fatal tractor-trailer crash in Columbus.
According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the accident happened on Highway 45 Alternate. An SUV was traveling in the area when the driver collided with the back of a tractor-trailer due to reasons that are not yet known. The SUV was left with extensive damages and had to be towed from the scene.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The male driver of the SUV, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. Nobody else was injured in the collision.
Due to the severity of the accident, the roadway was blocked for over an hour. Police quickly worked to clear the scene.
The investigation into the circumstances of the collision remains ongoing.
