Columbus, MS (April 20, 2022) – Two people lost their lives in a fatal car accident that took place on a major roadway in Columbus on Tuesday night, April 19.
According to Lowndes County officials, the accident happened around 9:30 p.m. in the northbound lanes of MS-45 around the area of Hank’s BBQ. Three vehicles were traveling in the area when one went into the wrong lane of traffic, colliding with the other vehicles. One of the vehicles was identified as an SUV. The vehicles involved in the collision sustained heavy damages as a result.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other local responders were called to the scene to help those in need. Two victims, identified as a 19-year-old man and his 17-year-old female passenger, were tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Two other victims, including a school resource officer, were injured in the accident. They were hospitalized but their current conditions are not yet known.
The roadway was blocked in the area of the accident for a period of time. Police quickly worked to clear the scene.
No further details have been released. The investigation into the accident remains ongoing.
