Gulfport, MS (April 22, 2022) – Early Friday, April 22, two people sustained injuries in a truck accident that took place on a Gulfport highway.
According to Mississippi Highway Patrol officials, the accident happened in the eastbound lanes of I-10 around the area of the Long Beach exit. A passenger vehicle was traveling in the eastbound lanes when their vehicle suddenly collided with a maintenance truck that was performing work on the highway. The maintenance truck was allegedly contracted by the Mississippi Department of Transportation.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other local responders were immediately called to the scene to help those in need. Two people inside the passenger vehicle, who have not yet been formally identified, were seriously injured in the accident. They were taken to local hospitals for treatment.
The roadway was blocked in the area of the accident for several hours as police worked to clear the scene and debris.
The investigation into the circumstances leading up to the accident remains ongoing.
