Mississippi Car Crashes

Mississippi is not unfamiliar with car crashes. In fact, every year, tens of thousands of wrecks are reported across the state. Semi-trucks are involved in a percentage of them. These types of accidents usually cause severe injuries or even fatalities for those involved. This is because tractor-trailers are often larger and heavier than the average sized passenger cars.

Sadly, thousands of people are hurt in these wrecks yearly and hundreds end up losing their lives. On average, the United States sees over 415,000 traffic collisions involving semi-trucks per year. Over 100,000 of these end in injuries for at least one person. Of those, about 5,000 fatal accidents occur yearly.

According to information provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Association, over 94% of auto collisions involving semi-trucks are caused by human error. Some other common causes of these types of accidents include:

  • Speeding
  • Fatigue
  • Distracted driving
  • Following too closely
  • Failing to secure loads
  • Rear-end collisions
  • Improper lane changes
  • Intoxication
  • Low filled liquid loads

In the past ten years, negligent driving has become the main culprit in the causation of the majority of auto accidents, and truck accidents, throughout the United States. When we consider that car crashes take more lives and cause more injuries than anything else in the US, we realize that negligent driving is the main cause of injury and death in the country at this time. All types of negligent driving are extremely dangerous and can even turn out to be deadly.
