Hattiesburg, MS (January 17, 2022) – Forrest County officials confirmed that injuries stemmed from a truck accident in Hattiesburg on Sunday evening, January 16.
According to officials, the accident happened around 5:45 p.m. at the intersection of US-49 and McLaurin Road. An 18-wheeler truck was traveling in the area when it collided with an SUV at the intersection due to reasons that are not fully known. The accident also knocked out power for approximately 840 customers in the area.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those with injuries. One or more victims were injured as a result of the collision. The injured parties were rushed to local hospitals for treatment, though their conditions are not yet known.
The roadway was blocked around the area of the intersection until approximately 9:30 p.m. that night. Power was restored within several hours of the collision.
No further details have been released. The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues at this time.
