Hernando, MS (January 3, 2022) – Around 8:10 a.m. on the morning of Thursday, December 30, a woman was killed in a fatal crash in Hernando.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol confirmed that the collision happened on MS-51 in Desoto County during a period of New Year’s Holiday travel enforcement. According to officials, 23-year-old Crystal Parks was traveling south on the highway in her Chevrolet Impala when her vehicle collided with a northbound Dodge Durango driven by 31-year-old Catlin Carlisle due to reasons that are not entirely known.
Paramedics and fire crews were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. Parks was tragically pronounced dead at the scene as a result of traumatic injuries. Carlisle was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries but her condition is not known at this time.
The roadway was blocked in several lanes of traffic following the collision. Police worked to fully clear the scene.
No further details have been released but police continue their investigation into the circumstances of the collision.
