Mississippi Car Wrecks
Traffic accidents frequently happen in the state of Mississippi and throughout the nation. In fact, the number of traffic accident deaths in the Magnolia State increased by 15% from 2019 to 2020. On average, the state of Mississippi sees over 100,000 car accidents per year. These accidents are most often caused by drivers who fail to stay in their own travel lanes. Driving erratically is a form of driver negligence, which is the main reason car crashes happen throughout the country.
Driver negligence happens when drivers fail to exercise reasonable care while operating their vehicles. This can result in other people getting hurt. In the US, driver negligence is the main cause of auto collisions and can take on numerous forms, including:
- Driver distraction: Distracted driving happens when a driver engages in any activity that takes their attention away from the road, such as eating, texting, or adjusting the radio.
- Intoxicated driving: Driver intoxication is displayed by drivers who operate their vehicles while under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or any mind/mood-altering substance.
- Speeding: Driving over or under the posted speed limit can greatly increase the risk of an accident. Also, driving too fast for the road conditions can decrease your ability to brake safely for the situation at hand.
When a driver is found to have caused a crash by acting negligently, they may be held liable for any injuries or damages that resulted from their actions. This can include lost wages (current and future), medical care, pain, suffering, and more. Seeking legal advice from a skilled car crash attorney is important if you have been hurt in an accident caused by a negligent driver. An attorney can help you understand your legal options and rights so you can work on recovering.
