Laurel, MS (December 31, 2021) – Around 2:53 p.m. on the afternoon of Friday, December 31, a major car accident with injuries occurred in Laurel.
Jones County officials responded to the scene at 5314 MS-15 in front of the local Dollar General where they discovered that two vehicles collided with one another. A Chevy S10 pickup truck was headed north on the roadway while a Nissan Titan was traveling south. The two vehicles collided, causing the S10 to spin multiple times until it came to a stop. The vehicles sustained heavy damages as a result.
Local responders, including paramedics and fire crews, were called to the scene to help those in need. One victim was trapped in their vehicle and was extricated by fire crews. The victim was then airlifted to the hospital for treatment of their injuries. One patient had minor injuries and is expected to be okay.
Due to the severity of the collision, a large portion of the roadway was blocked for a period of time. Police quickly worked to clear the scene.
The investigation into the accident remains ongoing.
