Fatal Bicycle Accidents in Mississippi
Every year, around 45,000 people lose their lives as a result of motor vehicle accidents in the United States. Approximately 2% of all fatal auto accidents involve bicyclists. Although the state of Mississippi is constantly enacting laws to keep bicyclists safe traveling along our roadways, we continue to see them harmed at an alarming rate.
In many instances, cyclists lose their lives as a result of drivers engaging and reckless, negligent, and malicious actions while operating their vehicles. Far too many crashes in our state are a result of drivers who:
- Run red lights
- Pass stop signs
- Fail to yield the right of way
- Fail to check lanes before changing
- Drive while impaired
- Drive while distracted
