Oxford, MS (April 18, 2022) – Injuries were reported in a car accident that took place on a major highway in Oxford on Monday morning, April 18.
According to Oxford Police, the accident happened around 9:15 a.m. at 479 US-278. Two or more vehicles were traveling in the westbound lanes of traffic when one or more lost control and collided with each other in front of Cannon Nissan of Oxford. The vehicles involved in the accident sustained heavy damages as a result.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. One or more victims were injured as a result of the collision. The injured parties were taken to local hospitals for treatment, though their identities and conditions are not yet known.
The roadway was blocked in all westbound lanes of traffic for an extended period of time as police cleared the scene.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues. Police will update with more information as it is available.
