Oxford, MS (May 12, 2022) – On Tuesday evening, May 10, a man was killed in a pedestrian accident on a highway in Oxford.
According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the accident happened in the evening hours on MS-7 in LaFayette County. Police confirmed that a vehicle was headed southbound when the SUV collided with a pedestrian who was traveling east on the road. The driver of the SUV remained at the scene to cooperate with the police.
Oxford fire crews, paramedics, and several other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The pedestrian, identified as 47-year-old Keith Knighton of Water Valley, was seriously injured and rushed to the hospital. He was tragically pronounced dead while there. The driver and passenger in the SUV were not hurt.
Several southbound lanes of traffic were blocked following the collision. Police quickly worked to clear the scene so traffic could resume as normal.
Mississippi Highway Patrol officials continue their investigation into the accident.
