Pearl River County, MS (February 2, 2024) – At approximately 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, February 1, police in Pearl River County responded to the scene of a fatal traffic accident. Reports show a 2002 Chevrolet passenger vehicle operated by Dorothy Smith, 83, of Poplarville, and a 2006 Toyota Scion operated by a 17-year-old man from Carriere were headed south on Highway 11 when they both crashed into a 2014 Dodge Ram Pickup operated by 41-year-old Ruben Ventura, also of Carriere. The Dodge Ram reportedly crossed the center line while headed north on Highway 11. The 17-year-old man lost his life in the crash, police said.
