Mississippi Car Accidents

Petal, MS - Two-Car Crash Ends in Injuries on Hwy 42 near Macedonia Rd

Car accidents in Mississippi are, unfortunately, extremely common. Every single day, over 300 collisions are reported. Though the majority of these only end in property damage, a percentage of them do cause injuries. According to information gathered from statistics, over 125,000 collisions happen each year in the Magnolia State. Approximately 54,000 individuals are injured in these collisions yearly, and over 1,000 lose their lives.

Traffic accidents are a serious problem in the United States. Unfortunately, this is mostly due to the negligence displayed by drivers. The National Highway Traffic Safety Association reports that over 93% of car accidents are caused by errors/negligence. Driver negligence is defined as any activity that diverts a driver’s attention from the road in front of them or their immediate surroundings.

Driver distraction, the most common form of driver negligence, takes the lives of around 3,000 individuals each year in the United States. Smartphones have greatly increased the rate at which drivers operate their vehicles while distracted. Even though it may seem harmless to look at your phone while behind the wheel, it definitely isn’t. Reading a text for five seconds while going 55 miles per hour is equal to driving the length of an entire football field with a blindfold on. Everyone you encounter in that five seconds is at risk for serious injuries or even death. When you think about it this way, is it really worth it to read a text and risk lives, including your own?

If you or someone you love has recently sustained injuries in a traffic accident caused by negligent driving, you need to contact an attorney. It is against the law to drive negligently, and those who choose to do so, causing accidents that can end in injuries and death, need to be held responsible for their actions. Negligent driving is punishable by hefty fines and, depending on the circumstances, time spent in jail.

Those who sustain injuries in auto accidents caused by negligence are often eligible to collect financial compensation for their losses and damages. However, if they attempt to collect this compensation without the help of a lawyer, they may get less than they deserve. A skilled car accident lawyer in Petal can help you collect financial compensation for your losses and damages.
