Rankin County, MS (August 22, 2023) – An eastern Mississippi resident lost her life in a traffic accident that occurred on Sunday night, August 20. At around 11:50 p.m., emergency responders were sent to the scene of the accident on Interstate 20 East.
Reports from authorities show the wreck happened on I-20 East near Exit 54. A Dodge Ram operated by 36-year-old Marcal Collins was involved in a head-on crash with a Honda when it was traveling the wrong way on the highway.
A passenger in the Honda lost her life in the collision. She was identified as Hattie Oneal, age 85, from Brooksville. The driver of the Honda suffered injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
