Mississippi Car Crashes

A car accident can turn your life totally upside down. You may sustain serious injuries and end up stuck in the hospital where you are unable to work or see your family. Additionally, the cost of medical care you might need to recover can end up being astronomical. On average, In the United States, it can cost in the tens of thousands of dollars to recover from serious car accident injuries.

On average, the United States sees more than 40,000 fatalities per year related to car accidents. The national average is approximately 11.4 deaths/100,000, according to information provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This is equal to 687 collisions that ended in over 750 deaths in 2020. There were also two deaths per every 100 million traveled miles, compared to the lowest ranking state, which saw less than one fatality per the same number of traveled miles.

Unfortunately, these numbers only continue to rise yearly. Severe accidents jumped from 633 in 2014 to more than 1,600 in 2019. When anyone decides to operate a vehicle in a reckless, careless, or otherwise negligent manner, they place their own lives at risk as well as the lives of others. Some of the main causes of auto collisions in the state of Mississippi include:

  • Speeding
  • Impaired driving (alcohol, prescription drugs, illegal drugs, marijuana)
  • Reckless driving
  • Distracted driving
  • Cell phone use
  • Running stop signs
  • Red lights
  • Fatigued driving
  • Wrong-way driving
  • Aggressive driving
  • Violating traffic laws
  • Inexperienced driving

For example, speeding only increases the chances of a collision taking place, and heavily decreases the ability of a driver to react safely if a crash does happen. The severity of a wreck is also greatly increased by traveling at high speeds. In the past twenty years, speed has contributed to approximately one-third of all deaths related to traffic accidents in the United States, according to information provided by the NHTSA.

When you or someone you love has been seriously hurt in a collision caused by a driver who was intoxicated, speeding, or distracted, it is imperative to be able to figure out how the collision occurred so you can get the compensation you need to cover the costs related to your damages and losses. No one should ever have to pay for sustaining injuries because of another person’s negligent actions.
