Rankin County, MS – One Injured in 18-Wheeler Crash on I-20

Rankin County, MS (January 28, 2024) – A serious truck crash was reported to police in Rankin County on the morning of January 26. One person suffered injuries in the accident that took place when two 18-wheelers collided on I-20.

At this time, the details surrounding the crash have not been reported. Only one westbound lane of Interstate 20 remained open as first responders worked to render aid at the crash scene. Sources say the wreck took place between Pelahatchie and Brandon. Police did not report how the incident occurred, but did say that, at one point, one of the large trucks was on its side in the roadway. The other truck sustained damage to its front end. Additionally, one of the tractor-trailers was carrying paint products and furniture. Several different agencies helped with clean-up efforts at the scene in order to reopen the interstate, including the Rankin County Emergency Management Department, the Mississippi Highway Patrol, Rankin County Sheriff Deputies, and the Pelahatchie Police Department. All westbound traffic on the interstate was diverted to Highway 80 at the Pelahatchie exit.

Police continue to investigate.

We hope for the full recovery of the injured victim.
