Mississippi Traffic Accidents

PFMstock-71Recreational vehicles provide a fun, alternative way to get around. However, when a recreational vehicle is involved in an accident, unfortunately, the potential for severe injuries is  present.

When we think about traffic accidents, we usually imagine car wrecks, tractor-trailer accidents, and more. We don’t regularly imagine accidents that involve ATVs and UTVs. Regardless, these types of crashes happen more frequently than most of us realize.

Our law firm has helped numerous people who have been victimized in recreational collisions when they sustained the following injuries:

  • Spinal cord damage
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Amputations
  • Broken bones
  • Paralysis
  • Loss of hearing/vision
  • Nerve damage
  • Permanent disfigurement or
    •  scarring

One prevalent reason so many wrecks happen involving recreational vehicles is the lack of licensing requirements in many states. This means that ATVs and UTVs can be operated without any formal training or licensing. In Mississippi, anyone of any age can drive a jet ski or a four-wheeler, even if they are young and inexperienced.

No special license is required in order for you to operate a motorhome or a camper either, which makes it more difficult for drivers to know when to brake safely or how to handle a hydroplaning vehicle.

There are no regulations for these vehicles, which also plays a role in crashes. Jeeps, quad bikes, and even ATVs are often operated on off-road trails, miles away from the nearest traffic light or stop sign. If a driver fails to operate valid safety precautions, conditions like this can cause severe wrecks.
