Mississippi Car Accidents
Car wrecks happen frequently in the state of Mississippi and throughout the United States. Every year, the US sees more than 6 million auto collisions that injure between 3 and 4 million people and take the lives of about 40,000. In Mississippi, over 100,000 car crashes are reported annually. These incidents cause injuries to over 65,000 and end the lives of more than 1,000 people per year.
The reasons car accidents occur vary, and can range from road construction to driver negligence. Some things are out of drivers’ control, however, some things aren’t. The behavior displayed by drivers is one of the only things that are totally in their control while behind the wheel. Unfortunately, negligent behavior is the main thing that leads to the majority of car crashes in the United States every year.
Driver negligence causes over 90% of reported auto accidents in the United States today, according to information provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Driver fatigue, distraction, intoxication, and speeding are four major types of driver negligence most often seen in auto crashes in the United States. Mississippi currently sees more auto crashes caused by driver distraction than any other type of negligence.
Driver negligence has most likely become such a problem in our country due to the ever-rising popularity of smartphones and handheld technology. Drivers simply can’t resist checking their phones, even when it means putting themselves and everyone around them at serious risk.
