Tylertown, MS (December 7, 2022) – A Mississippi man riding his bike on a highway in Walthall County was struck and killed by a motorist on Monday, December 5. Officials with the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to the scene shortly after 8:00 p.m.
Reports indicate the wreck happened on Highway 98 when a 2016 Hyundai Sonata driven by Joanna Cross, 30, was headed east. She collided with a bike operated by Lonnell James, 49, of Tylertown, who was attempting to cross the eastbound lanes of the highway.
James was critically injured and taken to Forrest General Hospital by ambulance. He was pronounced deceased at the hospital one day later.
Police in Tylertown continue to investigate the details of the accident.
