Vicksburg, MS (March 21, 2022) – An officer was hurt in a car crash that took place near an intersection in Vicksburg on Sunday, March 20.
According to Vicksburg Police, the accident happened on Mission 66th in front of a local McDonald’s near Clay Street. One officer was running on foot in the area pursuing a suspect while another was driving in a police cruiser. The officer in the cruiser started to exit the McDonald’s parking lot when his vehicle collided with a Silverado pickup truck that was traveling north.
Several local responders, including Vicksburg paramedics and fire crews, were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The officer was not responsive but was breathing when he was pulled out of his cruiser by fire crews. The officer and the male driver of the Chevrolet were taken to local hospitals for treatment. Their current conditions are not yet known.
The roadway was blocked in the area for an extended period of time as police worked to clear the scene.
No further details have been released. The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
