Amite County, MS – Shmelda McGhee, 36, Killed in 18-Wheeler Crash on Hwy 24

Amite County, MS (July 7, 2023) – A woman lost her life in a collision in Amite County on Wednesday, July 5. The crash happened at around 6:00 p.m. between an 18-wheeler and a passenger vehicle. 

Information from the Mississippi Highway Patrol shows that the incident happened on Highway 24 when a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu that was operated by Shmelda McGhee, 36, of Gloster, collided with a 2018 Freightliner tractor-trailer for reasons still under police investigation. 

McGhee was fatally injured in the collision, sources said. She was pronounced deceased on-site by medical professionals. Few other details have been reported at this time. 

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
